Roses are my favorite flower, and dehydrating rose petals is a wonderful way to enjoy their scent all year long. Drying rose petals is really easy, and you can use them in potpourri, rose tea, and sugar scrub recipes. They make great gifts.

Dehydrating rose petals is easy. Just follow these easy steps:
- You can use your oven, but I used our dehydrator; we purchased years ago from Cabela’s.
- Wash your rose petals to rid them of dirt and pesticides. Fresh picked roses are the best.
- You can pick out the dead rose petals, but I was too lazy to pick through my bowl. I think it gives it texture and color with different variations of the rose petals.
- Line your tray or cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Spread your rose petals out on your tray and set the dehydrator at 180 degrees; you can use the same temperature if you’re using your oven.
- It took about an hour from my rose petals to dry fully.
Uses of dried rose petals:
- Natural skin cleanser– rose carry antioxidant agents that fight aging, treat damage and over production of oil. Homemade skin cleanser can be made by mixing one teaspoon of powdered rose petals and enough water to make a paste like consistency. You can also add a little bit of raw honey for added health benefits. Gently massage face with cleanser and let sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with water.
- To make a powder out of rose petals, I use a spice grinder. This is the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093K75YX1?ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details&th=1 (this is not a commission link)
- Rose Infused Oil– rose infused oil is found in a lot of homemade soaps, lotions and other health care related products. Homemade oil is easy to make, and it can last up to a year. To make, cover the petals with at least 2 inches of the oil. Use any oil desired. Put the mixture in a container with a lid. I use mason jars for everything. Here is the link to the mason jars I like to use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097JSMZ79/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (this is not a commission link)
- Homemade Potpourri– Dehydrating your rose petals helps extend their life for a second use. You can make your own potpourri by mixing dried rose petals with other scents such as cinnamon sticks, dried ginger, or whole vanilla beans. Add the mixture to a cute bowl or pottery and freshen up a room in your house. You could also add the mixture to sock drawers, closets and bathrooms.
- Bath Salts– When I think of roses, I think of romance or luxury, so it only makes sense to add them to a relaxing hot bath. Make your own bath salts by mixing a cup of Epsom Salts, and a handful of dried rose petals, and 1/4 cup sea salts. To enhance the scent, you can add a few drops of rose essential oil. Stir together and store in a jar.
- Pour directly into your bath or use a muslin bag, and let the mix infuse into your bathwater.
- Homemade Tea– Did you rose tea can help relieve menstrual cramps and diarrhea? I like to add some black tea leaves and dried rose petals into a tea diffuser and steep into hot water for about 5-7 minutes. I like to add lavender sugar cubes for sweetness.
- Rose Petal Jam– If you like a fragrant and floral jam, this jam is for you. Recipe (coming soon).
